Tele-scorpio

This is a really bad LoveLive fanfiction I wrote when I was 17. It was originally written on April 8th, 2015. For a long time, I thought it was lost media, but I finally found it in June 2025 on the Wayback Machine. Presented in its original level of cringe, I give you Tele-scorpio.

plot: Rin wishes on the moon to spend time with Maki

A bright light shone onto the orange-haired girl’s face through the gap between Rin Hoshizora’s closed curtains and Rin Hoshizora’s bedroom wall, rousing her from her admittedly light sleep. It was not long before she’d worked out its source – the full moon, high in the skies above her house. Rin smiled at the moon, and the moon smiled back at her. Every time the full moon woke her up in the night, which was fairly frequently, or at least it seemed, she remembered a book that she’d been read as a child. The book told her that the moon was actually a helpful spirit, and when the moon was full, she would listen to your wishes. Unfortunately, she was a little bit flustered with everyone’s wishes, so often she got your wish a little bit mixed up; by wishing on the full moon, you were sure something good would happen, but you could never be quite sure what.

Rin decided to make a wish. But what about? What were the usual things people wished for? Money, perhaps… but she, while not rich, was at least comfortable. Fame? As a member of μ’s, she’d already got that! But she’d have to wish for something if she wanted something good to happen. Her mind then strayed to the other members of μ’s, and anything that they might want. Hanayo.. she’d want more rice. But she wouldn’t need to make a wish to get more rice… what about Nico? More idol DVDs? Again… she wouldn’t need the help of the moon spirit. How about Maki? Maki’s family were rich… they could get her anything she wanted! But thinking about Maki, Rin had always had a bit of a soft spot for the redhead. But she was always too busy, or too cross, or hanging out with Nico, to spend time with Rin. It’d be great to spend time with Maki – they could go to the park and see the beautiful cherry blossoms – or wait, maybe not, it wasn’t the time of year for cherry blossoms – or to the karaoke and Rin could hear Maki’s beautiful singing voice, or maybe even to the rooftops to stargaze! That’d be wonderful, thought Rin.

“I… I wish Maki would spend time with me, nya!” she whispered. And after gazing at the moon’s light for a few more seconds, she rolled over and went back to sleep.

“Well, so long as no-one else has anything to add, I think that concludes our meeting,” said Nozomi, to the other eight members of μ’s. Met with silence, she continued, “I guess that means we’re done here! Eli, you still up for parfaits?”

The blonde girl nodded, and reached for Nozomi’s hand. Taking it in her own, she and Nozomi walked out of the clubroom.

Sensing Nico’s gaze, Maki quickly yapped, “Hey! What’re you looking at me like that for? I already told you I have to study tonight, jeez!” Looking slightly disheartened, Nico sighed, and picked up her bag and left.

Rin expected to turn to Hanayo and see her looking at Rin; but Hanayo was already deep in conversation with Umi about alpacas or something that clearly wasn’t as important as spending time with her best friend. And before she could protest, Hanayo and Umi had already left the room together.

Kotori and Honoka followed shortly after, rabbiting on about something to do with A-RISE. Rin thought the so-called ‘rivalry’ between μ’s and A-RISE – especially when Honoka and Tsubasa were quite obviously dating – was more than a little stupid. But that meant that the only person left in the room other than herself was the redhead who was now shuffling some kind of papers on the desk at the back of the club room.

“Maki-chan!” Rin yelled as she jumped on her back.

Maki screamed. “Rin! God! You musn’t do things like that; I’ve told you time and time again it’s not-”

“Maki-chan, wanna hang out?” Rin asked, completely ignoring Maki’s protests.

“I- were you not listening before? I have to study! Exams are coming up soon! Do you want me to fail? And why aren’t you studying either?” Maki demanded.

“Well, I have been, nya!” Rin lied. “But sometimes… you need a break! And I wanted to spend my break hanging out with you!” Rin hoped her smile could weaken Maki and get her to come along.

But no success. “I told you, Rin – I can’t. Maybe after exams. But now, I’ve got so much work to do, I can’t hang out at all!” And she almost ran out of the clubroom. The door had closed itself behind her before Rin could even think about protesting.

Suddenly her phone vibrated in her pocket. A new message, from Hanayo! “Where are you? Me and Umi are with the alpacas, come meet us!” read Rin. And she at last picked up her own bag and left the room.

There was nothing more frustrating than having to study whilst it’s sunny outside, reflected Maki. Sure, it might be kind of cold at this time of year, but the feeling of the sun on her face would be worth it. All she needed was a break! It felt like she’d been studying for weeks on end – well, really, she had! Every day after coming home from school, she’d eat her evening meal then hit the books until 10pm when she went to bed. It was taking its toll on the redhead.

Maki stood up from her chair and stretched, glancing around her room as she did so. The floor was absolutely covered in books, and papers, and folders, and pens and textbooks and all manner of other study materials. The sight of them just lying unorganised and messy and covering the carpet and the table and the chairs only served to frustrate her even more.

Having no concentration on the work she had set for herself, she began to daydream about what had happened at school that day. It had been an okay day, she reflected. Not a lot happened. She did well in her maths homework. She didn’t do all that well in PE – but she didn’t care about PE all that much. She ate lunch with Nico and Nozomi and Eli. She went to a μ’s meeting at the end of the day. And Rin’s face popped into her head, the words “you need a break” echoing in her head. And her mobile on the desk next to her work was so tempting…

Forty-five minutes later, Maki found herself ringing the doorbell at Rin’s house. Almost instantly, the door swung open, and Rin threw her arms around Maki’s neck.

“I’m so happy that you’re here, nya!” Rin exclaimed.

“Aah! Get off, Rin! I already told you once today about jumping on me like that!” Maki yelled.

“Aw, but Maki-chan is so cute! I can’t help but want to hug her, nya!” Maki blushed.

“W- wh- what? No! D- don’t say things like that, Rin!” Rin laughed, and invited her in the house.

“Rin’s just going to get some food, so you make yourself at home and I’ll be back in a few minutes, nya!” Maki sat down on the sofa in the living room and gazed at its contents. She’d never actually been in Rin’s house before, despite Rin having been to hers many times, so it was a totally new experience. There were some really cute pictures of Rin as a little girl here – as well as numerous pictures of her and Hanayo together. Maki often forgot that Rin and Hanayo had known each other for ten years already. Moving her eyes further and further around the room, Maki noticed an unusual shaped object stuck out from behind a cupboard in the corner of the room. It was a long, cylindrical object, and it seemed to be made from some kind of shiny material… was it-

“Maki-chan!” Rin yelled as she entered the room. “I brought food!” She put down a plate of biscuits and two cups of tea onto the table. “Enjoy, nya!” “Rin,” Maki began, moving over towards the shiny object, “what’s that?”

“That? Oh, it’s a telescope, nya!” Aha, Maki thought. She was right. But why would Rin have a telescope? She never seemed the type to be into stargazing. As though she could read Maki’s thoughts, Rin explained, “My aunt got it for me for Christmas, but I don’t know how to use it. I’d really like to be able to look stars and planets properly through it!”

“Well,” said Maki, “why don’t I show you? It’s been a while since I used a telescope but I’m sure we can figure it out together.”

“Maki-chan is so helpful and clever, nya!” Rin thanked Maki.

Maki went red. “No, I’m not, Rin… you mustn’t say things like that!” Recovering from her flustered state, she added, “Let’s go and figure it out, then.”

Maki and Rin put on their hats and gloves and coat, and headed out onto the roof of Rin’s garage with the telescope in Maki’s hands and the biscuits and tea in Rin’s. Rin put them down on the wall on the side of the roof so that she could help Maki with the telescope.

“Unnf… it’s a bit heavy, isn’t it?” Maki grumbled.

“It is, nya! That’s one of the reasons why I didn’t bring it up here before…” agreed Rin, lowering the telescope from Maki’s shoulder.

“What were the other reasons?” asked Maki,

“I didn’t know how to use it, nya!”

Maki extended the legs of the tripod to their full height and stood the telescope up on the rooftop. Then, she removed the lens cap from the end of the telescope and reached into a bag that came with it, and began to pull out a myriad of different lenses and tools and other items.

“Wow, Maki-chan, you really are clever, nya! Rin doesn’t know how to use any of these things…” Maki blushed.

“I- I told you to stop saying things like that, Rin!” She stopped for a second. “Come here, Rin, I’ll show you what all of these lenses are for.” Rin walked over to the redhead and bent down next to her. “This is the part of the telescope that you look through. Now, there are lots of different lenses here, and you have to make sure that you use the right ones! This lens is for looking at things which are close to us, like the moon, or looking at things that are on Earth already. This lens is for looking at things which are a lot further away like the planets or the stars.”

At this point Maki started talking about magnification powers, which involved a lot of numbers, and Rin quickly zoned out.

“Rin? Rin? Are you listening to me?” Maki noticed the cat-like girl was not paying much attention to her explanation.

“Oh, sorry, nya… all these numbers are difficult for Rin to understand…” Really, Rin could understand what Maki was talking about, but she was trying to tease her. Evidently, the older girl hadn’t caught on.

“Well- just pay more attention, okay?” She continued talking about lenses and reflection and magnification and many other things that are not quite essential to being able to point the telescope at the moon and look through it.

“Rin?” She noticed the orange-haired girl was once again not quite paying attention. “You know what…” she began, and then began to assemble parts onto the telescope. Eventually, she stepped back and admired her handiwork. Then, she bent down and put her eye up to the telescope lens.

“Maki-chan’s cute when she’s concentrating, nya!” Maki tried to ignore the compliment, but only managed to make herself go redder. Rin always knew just how to make her blush.

Then, she started to turn the telescope towards the sky, and looked through it a few more times. Finally, she turned a few knobs and dials on the side of the telescope, before turning to Rin, and inviting her to come and have a look.

Rin gingerly put her face up to the eyepiece, and gasped. Maki had focused the telescope right on the full moon. Rin could make out mountains, and craters, and valleys and cliffs on its surface.

“It’s amazing, Maki-chan, nya! Thank you so much!” She turned to Maki, and her grin faded slightly. Maki was shivering. “Are you okay, nya?”

“I- I’m f-fine, Rin. Just a-a little ch-chilly is all…” replied Maki.

“You’re more than a little chilly, nya… I can see you shivering from here!” Rin got up and hugged Maki, hoping to warm her up a little bit.

“R-rin… get off…” she protested, but soon found that she liked the warmth and comfort of Rin’s arms.

“I realised it was going to be really cold, so I brought a blanket.” Rin reached down to the floor and grabbed the blanket, putting it over her and Maki. “C’mon, let’s sit down, nya.”

Maki nodded, and the two of them sat down against the wall. “Thanks for setting up the telescope for me, Maki-chan, nya!”

“I-it’s no problem, R-rin… I- um…” Maki suddenly realised how much of a relief it was to have had a break from her studying to hang out with her friend. It felt like there was a massive weight lifted off her.

“You… what, nya?” Rin inquired.

“Oh, it’s.. it’s nothing.” Maki avoided the question. Maki could feel herself welling up with tears, but she held them back. “Can- can I?” She lowered her head onto Rin’s shoulder. “Thank you, Rin.”

Rin put her arms around Maki, sensing her stress and frustration with her studying returning to her. “It’s okay, nya. Rin is here for you.” Maki snuggled into Rin’s arms as a thank you.

Holding Maki close, she looked back up at the sky. It seemed as though the moon spirit had finally got her wish right.
