Writing

Here's a list of random things I have written in my life. Most of them aren't very good, but I'm saving them here for posterity.

  • Telescorpio - April 2015 - a Love Live fanfiction I wrote for my partner when I was 17
  • An untitled premise for a sci-fi story. Never wrote any more than this. Inspired, I imagine, by The Expanse.
  • Ash-Caked - August 2021 - A retelling of a conversation I had in a stolen car in Iceland many years ago.
  • Rain in the Desert - summer 2020 - Edgy thing about a girl I had a crush on when I lived in Almería.
  • The Carpet Factory Burned Down - summer 2025 - First part of a novel I wanted to write about my childhood
  • Alice Chester - summer 2023 - After reading a Catalan translation of an Icelandic detective novel, I decided I wanted to write my own detective story. This is as far as I got.
  • Concord Valley, my white whale. - a scifi story I wanted to write when I was between 18 and 23, but gave up on because I could never think of a good ending. The plot was to have a girl who lives in a village on another planet discover a stasis pod for the daughter of the captain of the original settlers from thousand years ago. Then the government tries to arrest her and they have to stop them and also bring down the government in the process. Standard YA stuff really. I would love to finish this one day, but it's been 12 years and I just don't think I can at this point.
    • 2016 version, prologue and chapters 1-5 - July-October 2016 - One of the longer versions of Concord Valley, and probably the best. I like to think this one is probably the canon version of the story. (20,000 words)
    • 2017 version, prologue and chapters 1-8 - February-October 2017 - An attempt to write further and also condense the opening chapters I wrote in the 2016 version. It's the longest version of the story. Looking back in 2026, I don't think this version is as good as the 2016 version. (36,000 words)
    • 2017 version 2, prologue and chapter 1 (unfinished) - July 2017 - an attempt to write a 'when I was young' kind of prologue (1,000 words)
    • The Photograph - August 2019 - an attempt at rewriting the first chapter (2,300 words)
    • Miscellaneous maps I made to help the story out

Version 3 of the setting, the one I was most happy with

      • Map of the area around Isidis City, the closest city to the village of Concord Valley (December 2014)
      • Map of the Westford Territories, the nationstate where Concord Valley takes place (February 2016)
      • Map of the whole planet (warning, large image!!) I don't really know why I needed to make a giant map of the whole planet, but I remember it being quite fun. (December 2014)
      • Flag of the Westford Territories
      • View from Concord Valley. I tried my best to photoshop some distant skyscrapers into the background. I also have no idea where the original photo came from. Somewhere in Spain, maybe?
      • Map of the Shona Islands. One of the plans I had was for the characters to visit this island nation, but in the end I had more fun making this map than I did coming up with something compelling for them to do there.
      • Oldest version of map 3. This was the first attempt at making another new map. Eventually this became the base of the map I liked the most.
      • Version 2 of the setting, when I decided that I wanted my own planet for it

      • Version 2 of the world map. I kept these continents and added them in the centre of the new map. This one was kinda boring because I just took random countries from Earth and put 'new' or whatever in front of them. Lame!!!
      • Version 1 of the setting - originally the story was to be set on a terraformed Mars, and here are some of the images I made to work on that idea. In fact, that's why the city is called Isidis City, it was supposed to originally be situated in Isidis Planitia on Mars. In the end I kept the name when I scrapped the Mars idea.

      • A terraformed map of Mars (August 2014)
      • A really bad map of Isidis City (warning, large image!!) (August 2014)
    • Pictures of some of the main characters, drawn by my dear friend Wheels. This is really early on, at this point Charlie is still a man. Eventually I change this character to Charlotte de Vita, the space radio host. (August 2014)
